Q: I use Nortel T7316E phones, can I use just 1 headset?
A: Yes! The Nortel T7316E phones are “headset ready” and have a dedicated headset jack, you would typically use a Plantronics H-series headset with an A10 (66268-02) bottom cable. We don’t have any sort of integrated device that will connect the two phones that will let you switch at the press of a button. But if you have two A10 cords (1 for each phone) plugged into both headset jacks, you can just quickly unplug the headset at the quick disconnect break away and re-plug into the 2nd cable. Now this isn’t as streamlined as pressing a button, but it only takes 2 seconds to do (which is quicker and easier than changing headsets).

Cisco Trilogy. All good trilogies usually come in three’s…
Help? My Cisco has a headset jack, do I need an amplifier? No, you do not need an amplifier to use a corded headset on most Cisco phones. Cisco 7940, 7960 & 7970 series phone models are “headset ready” and have a dedicated headset jack on the back of the phone, so instead of the amplifier you just use any Plantronics H-series headset with a bottom cable (26716-01). “Headset ready” phones have small amplifiers built-in, so no external amplifiers are required. We do have a couple of models that were designed for Cisco and include the bottom cable, HW251N-CIS and HW261N-CIS. The only scenario where the “CIS” versions will work great and some of the others won’t, is if you are using a Cisco Power Cube (ac adapter) with your phone at a remote location. (This is rare)
Help? Can I use a wireless headset for my Cisco phone? Absolutely! We have several wireless headset models that will work with the Cisco 7940, 7960 & 7970 series phones. Wireless headsets give you the mobility to multi-task without being chained to your phone. Some of our wireless models include the Plantronics CS55, and we also have the Savi Office Models like the WO100 & WO200 which allow you to use the same headset on the telephone and the computer. (These are way cool!) And don’t forget that you either need the HL10 handset lifter or the APC-4 EHS (Electronic Hook Switch# 37978-01 for Cisco) to answer away from your desk by just pressing a button on the headset.
Help? Do Cisco Cordless phones have a standard 2.5mm jack? No, the Cisco cordless phones such as the 7921 model does not have a standard 2.5mm headset jack. It does have a 2.5mm headset jack, but it is not the standard one. You can use any Plantronics H-series headset, and you will need the special 2.5mm patch cable (model# 65287-01) to connect it to the Cisco cordless phone. So please don’t get a headset with a regular 2.5mm plug, it just won’t work…

Q: How long is the cable for the Plantronics .Audio 645 and is an extension cable available?
A: The length of the cord for the .Audio 645 is about 9.5 Feet. At this time Plantronics has no plans to make an extension for their computer headsets. You may be able to locate some 3.5mm male to female extensions at an electronics store as long as they’re wired the same as the .Audio 645.

Q: I use a ShoreTel 265 phone at work and I need to find out if the AWH-55 Wireless Headset will work with this phone. I would like to be able to answer the phone from the headset without the use of a handset lifter so please let me know what model would work with my phone.
A: Here is what is recommended for the ShoreTel IP 265 Telephone: Instead of the AWH-55, you want to use the Plantronics CS55 ($225.00). Physically, it looks similar to the AWH-55 but it works on a different frequency (1.9 GHz) that will not interfere with your wireless Internet connections in the office and it has up to 10 hours of talk time. To connect it to your phone without having to use a handset lifter, you will need the RD-1 adapter cable (#78887-01, $24.95) which allows for remote call answer/end.

Q: Why can’t I use a Plantronics H-Series Headset & a Polaris cable with my Nortel phones, rather than the A-10 cord?
A: Up until about 6 months ago, Plantronics made a line of headsets called the Polaris series Headset. These headsets were designed to work with phones like the Nortel that have a built-in amplifier. Plantronics no longer manufactures the Polaris headsets because they came out with the A-10 Cable. The A-10 Cable allows any of their H-Series Headsets to work effectively with phones, which in the past, required the Polaris headset. However, the polaris cable is not designed to work with an H-Series headset because the circuitry is not compatible.

The model of amplifier will determine it’s interchangeability. However, the Plantronics corded amplifier is not normally designed to work together with cordless / wireless stations, although if they’re used on different phones, they can be used on the same phone system. Another possibility is our training adapter, primarily used for training purposes but does allow you to toggle between corded and wireless headsets. The headsets used with the corded amplifier are compatible with the older Plantronics CA10 cordless base because of the quick disconnect feature but the CA10 is now discontinued and only available as a reconditioned unit.

It sure can! Most people use the Plantronics .Audio 920 for SKYPE or other VOIP software, but you can also use it for listening to music or tutorials on your computer. Once you plug the USB dongle into your computer, just configure it through your “control panel” (go to sounds & audio devices, then audio, then sound playback) and set it as your “default” audio sound playback device, instead of your regular speakers, that way your computer speakers will be muted and you will be the only one who can hear the sound through your headset.

Q: I already bought a Plantronics Calisto Pro on eBay to use at the office – simply for hands-free conversation because we are dispatchers who have to constantly refer to crew guides and keep track of events in logs. I have been trying to connect the work phone handset coil cord (smaller) jack to the Calisto base’s (standard) phone socket, but although it does click into place it appears there is no contact being made.
Do you know if there is an adapter available anywhere to make this connection? In both cases only the two middle contacts are installed in the plug/socket, so either a solid adapter unit or a (1 foot) patch cord with a female handset socket and a male standard phone jack would seem to be the solution.
A: Unfortunately, a problem we run into regularly with online auctions is their inability to explain products. There is no way to connect a handset to the CalistoPro. It’s basically a single line cordless telephone that connects to a Bluetooth wireless headset and your PC for expanded communication capabilities. The modular connection on the base is just for the telephone line. With a splitter you can add a phone with a corded handset to use along with the Calisto Pro.
